So today we headed off to Switzerland. We had a ten hour bus ride and no one
was looking forward to that. We hate uncomfortable rides. The bus was an hour
late so we just sat around waiting.
Eventually it showed up and off we went. Kena and I spent the first two
hours writing about the first 4 days and listening to music. The bus driver was
required by regulations every 4 hours of driving for 45 minutes so after two
hours of driving us he took a break. We had a rest stop at a gas station. I
bought these French doughnuts but they were awful so I threw them away. Luckily
Henson always has little extra treats for us. She knows what's good here. (:
Then we took off again and all mostly slept the next three hours til
lunch. The drive was boring. France is a lot of greenery which is super pretty
but gets old. It's not too crowded down south. Eventually we got to our lunch
stop in southern France in a small medieval town called Beaune. Stunning.
Again. I think I'd want to move to a little town like this one. So relaxed and
laid back. Not the busy city life like Paris and a lot cheaper too(; We ate
these delicious Creole sandwiches and then got gelato. I got a triple French
chocolate and Kena got chocolate banana. We wandered the beautiful streets and
enjoyed the peace til we had to leave. I loved it in Beaune and I'm so glad we
got to stop in southern France.
We then headed off again for the next four hours where we were mindlessly
entertained by Hensons interesting facts app.
Did you know that 16 pennies stacked on top of each other make an inch
and 16 pennies lined up make a foot?
Did you know that there's an owl hidden on the dollar bill?
Did you know someone once did 14,001 push-ups in one day?
Yeah. Neither did we. We do now though. Hey anything to keep us from
getting bored.
Kena and I also got the chance to get to know Dimitrious better and he's
freaking hilarious.
Then we made one final rest stop and continued.
Pretty soon we were at the French/Swiss/German border. Four corners of
the four states? Psh. Nothing on being in three countries at once.
They didn't stamp our passports, or even check them, at that border. So
lame. Our goal is to get them stamped sometime tomorrow.
Then we were in Switzerland! It's as beautiful as everyone says. Small
villages, but gorgeous.
They have four official languages, English, German, French and Italian.
So when meeting people you never know what to expect. All the street signs are
written in German though so it's weird to go from mostly being able to read in
france to not knowing a thing here.
Next was dinner at the hotel. First the brought out cream pea soup. Ew. I
don't do peas.
Haha.
Next they brought out meat and pasta. Lamb is a common thing here and I
refuse to be a part of that. I basically just eat chicken. We asked the chef
what kind of meat it was and he said it was pork. Someone in our group said it
tasted like veal and the chef said it could be, he didn't really know.
Ummm..... If the chef doesn't know what it is - Don't eat it.
We had a caramel custard for dessert which was just really weird and we
didn't like it.
So dinner was rough. Lets hope the Swiss food gets better because I'm
missing last nights dinner in France right now.
Our hotel here is brand new and really nice. Only thing is the shower has
a full body sized window in it. Leads out through the bedroom to another window
out to the street. The toilet is behind the shower as well. Weird right? And
there's nothing to cover it but we did our best.
We took a walking night tour of the area around our hot and it's just
cute. That's all(: Even found this random giant hippo... Started taking pictures with it, but then some guy came out and got mad and took it away!
Got to Skype Brayden when I got home so that was way fun and
amazing!(:
Now everyone's asleep
and I'm about to join them(: Here's to a great couple days in Switzerland(:
